AIBN Azobisisobutyronitrile

AIBN is also known as ABN-R, Azobis(isobutyronitrile), 2,2-Azobis(isobutyronitrile), etc. AIBN (azobisisobutyronitrile) is a white crystalline solid with the molecular formula C8H12N4. It is a highly effective free radical initiator and is widely used in various industries, including polymer manufacturing, rubber chemistry, and organic synthesis.

AIBN, has a chemical formula of C8H12N4 and is soluble in organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, ether, acetone, petroleum ether and aniline. When exposed to heat, nitrogen and organic cyanide containing -(CH2)2-C-CN groups are released. It decomposes slowly at room temperature and rapidly decomposes at 100 ℃

Azobisisobutyronitrile uses

AIBN is a thermally unstable compound, which means that it decomposes at high temperatures to produce free radicals. These free radicals are essential for various industrial processes, such as the polymerization of acrylic monomers and the crosslinking of rubbers. Azo bis isobutyronitrile is also used as a blowing agent in the production of polystyrene foam.
