Isopropanol is one of the earliest petrochemical products in the world. It is an important organic chemical raw material and an excellent organic solvent. It is widely used. Introduction to isopropyl alcohol

Iso-propyl Alcohol (IPA) is an organic compound, isomer of n-propyl Alcohol, alias dimethyl methanol, 2-propyl Alcohol, also known as IPA in the industry. Colorless transparent liquid, like ethanol and acetone mixture of odor, and alcohol, ether, chloroform and water miscible, can dissolve alkaloids, rubber, shellac, rosin, synthetic resin and other organic and some inorganic substances, and water azeotrope, insoluble in salt solution. It can be ignited at room temperature, and its steam and air are easily mixed to form explosive mixture.

Application

Isopropanol has a wide range of uses, mainly as an organic solvent in the fields of ink and coating, and also has importantpure isopropyl alcohol suppliers - YuanfarChemicals applications in medicine, organic chemical raw materials and electronic industry. As chemical raw materials, can produce acetone, hydrogen peroxide, methyl isobutylketone, diisobutylketone, isopropylamine, isopropyl ether, isopropyl chloride, and fatty acid isopropyl ester and chlorinated fatty acid isopropyl ester. In fine chemical industry, can be used to produce isopropyl nitrate, isopropyl xanthate, triisopropyl phosphite, isopropyl aluminum and medicine and pesticides, but also can be used to produce diisoacetone, isopropyl acetate and thymol and gasoline additives.

As a solvent is relatively cheap solvent in industry, widely used, can freely mix with water, the solubility of lipophilic substances is stronger than ethanol, can be used as nitrocellulose, rubber, coatings, shellac, alkaloids and other solvents. Can be used to produce paint, ink, extraction agent, aerosol agent, etc. It can also be used as antifreeze, detergent, additive for blending gasoline, dispersant for pigment production, fixing agent for printing and dyeing industry, antifogging agent for glass and transparent plastics, etc. Used as adhesive thinner, also used in antifreeze, dehydrating agent, etc.

Supply and demand situation

The market demand of isopropanol in China is increasing steadily year by year, but the supply growth of isopropanol obviously lags behind the market demand. China is a big importer of isopropyl alcohol, and the study of isopropyl alcohol industrialization began in the 1960s. In 1977, PETROCHINA Jinzhou Petrochemical Company established an isopropyl alcohol plant with an annual output of 20,000 tons, followed by the gradual expansion of the national capacity. For a long time, our country needs to import a lot from abroad. In a long period of time in the future, the contradiction between supply and demand of isopropyl alcohol market will be more prominent.

Manufacturing technique

The initial production process of isopropyl alcohol may be a little unexpected: the biological fermentation of grain to get acetone, followed by hydrogenation reaction to produce isopropyl alcohol products. This primitive process consumed large quantities of high-quality grain and was, unsurprisingly, eliminated by the course of history. At present, the industrial production of isopropyl alcohol in the world can be mainly divided into propylene indirect water method and propylene direct water method. In recent years, the production capacity of acetone raw material market is surplus, so the process of producing isopropanol by catalytic hydrogenation of acetone as raw material has emerged. In addition, there are some methods and reports of producing isopropanol by direct oxidation and other methods.
