Initial stage of chemical industry

Chemical industry is one of the most important means for human beings to transform the world. As early as ancient times, human beings began to use chemical methods to carry out production activities such as pottery making, brewing, dyeing, smelting and painting. Through these behaviors, the great journey of human beings to transform the material world began gradually. By the end of the Christian era, the East and the West had started alchemy and alchemy respectively. Thanks to the investment of many nobles with money and nowhere to spend, and the fear of living for a long time, all the emperors tested their poisons, human beings gradually mastered some of the most basic chemical knowledge. At that time, the world's first chemical plant appeared in Britain. They used sulfur and pyrite to produce the most important inorganic acid, sulfuric acid, after oxidation and hydration reactions. However, the technical conditions at that time were very limited, and the output of the plant was not large. Later, the industrial revolution took place in Britain, and the textile industry was first developed by leaps and bounds. The rapid development of the textile industry immediately boosted the demand for acid and alkali. For example, in the past, the printing and dyeing industry mainly used alkaloids, but now the supply of alkaloids obviously exceeds the demand, and the market has become extremely eager for artificial alkali.

Finally, in 1791, French chemist Lv Bran, under the heavy reward of the French Academy of Sciences, developed a new method of preparing soda ash, that is, sodium carbonate, with table salt as the raw material, and began to invest in building factories. In the process of producing sodium carbonate, hydrochloric acid can also be produced. Hydrochloric acid can be used to prepare chlorine, calcium chloride, calcium hypochlorite and other chlorine containing substances, which are also needed by the textile industry, It can be used to make bleach. In addition, the soda ash produced can also be converted into caustic soda, that is, sodium hydroxide, which can be used to produce soap and other detergents. Of course, it has other more extensive uses. In this way, such a factory made full use of raw materials and by-products, which was a great innovation at that time. Therefore, people called this method of manufacturing soda ash Lubran method. In the process of producing soda ash by Lubran process, the absorption tower, rotary furnace and other equipment used are gradually adopted by other companies, becoming the ancestor of many chemical equipment. In this way, the foundation of the entire chemical industry, that is, the production system of acids, bases and other inorganic substances, has been basically established.
