What is Methylhydrazine?

Methylhydrazine(MMH) or monomethyl hydrazine, is colorless liquid of rocket propellant, having a smell of ammonia. Methylhydrazine could be used for the production of pyrazole derivatives, then form novel fungicides, herbicides and insecticides through other chemical reactions. It is also used as a rocket propellant in biopropellant rocket engines because it is hypergolic with various oxidizers such as nitrogen tetroxide (N₂O₄) and nitric acid (HNO₃). Methylhydrazine should be stored in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat. The storage temperature should not exceed 30℃. The packing should be sealed and not in contact with air. MMH should be separated from oxidizing agents, peroxides, food chemicals, not mixed storage. Explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities are adopted. Do not use mechanical equipment and tools that may cause sparks. The storage area should be equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment and appropriate storage materials.

Mono methylhydrazine operation precautions:

 Airtight operation, strengthen ventilation. Operators must undergo special training and strictly abide by the operating procedures. It is recommended that the operator wear a catheter-type gas mask, a jumpsuit-type tape gas-proof suit, and rubber oil-resistant gloves. Keep away from fire and heat sources, and smoking is strictly prohibited in the workplace. Use explosion-proof ventilation systems and equipment. Prevent the vapor from leaking into the air in the workplace. Avoid contact with oxidants. Operate and dispose in nitrogen. When handling, load and unload with care to prevent damage to packaging and containers. Equipped with corresponding types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment and leakage emergency treatment equipment. Empty containers may be harmful residues.
