1. Hazard Overview
Health hazard: Accidental inhalation of methyl hydrazine vapor may cause tearing, sneezing and coughing, followed by eye congestion, bronchospasm, dyspnea, nausea and vomiting. Burns caused by skin contact. Chronic inhalation of methylhydrazine may cause mild methemoglobin formation and hemolysis.
Flammability and explosion hazard: the product is flammable, highly toxic, corrosive, and can cause burns to human body.
2. First aid measures
Skin contact: Take off contaminated clothes immediately, and wash with plenty of flowing water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical attention.
Eye contact: immediately lift the eyelids and wash them thoroughly with a large amount of flowing water or normal saline for at least 15 minutes. Get medical attention.
Inhalation: quickly leave the site to a place with fresh air. Keep the respiratory tract unobstructed. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If breathing stops, perform artificial respiration immediately. Get medical attention.
Ingestion: Rinse with water and drink milk or egg white. Get medical attention.
3. Fire fighting measures
Hazardous combustion products: carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide.
Fire fighting method: firefighters must wear filter gas masks (full face masks) or isolated respirators, and wear full body fire and gas protective clothing to extinguish the fire in the upwind direction. In case of fire, firefighters must operate in a protective shelter.
Extinguishing agent: insoluble foam, carbon dioxide, dry powder, sand.
4. Leakage emergency treatment
Emergency treatment: evacuate the personnel in the leakage contaminated area to the safe area quickly, and isolate them immediately. For small leakage, isolate them for 150 m, and for large leakage, isolate them for 450 m, and strictly restrict access. Cut off the ignition source. It is recommended that emergency treatment personnel wear self-contained positive pressure respirators and gas protective clothing. Do not touch the leakage directly. Cut off the source of leakage as much as possible. Prevent flowing into restricted spaces such as sewers and flood drainage ditches.
Small amount of leakage: absorb or absorb with sand or other incombustible materials. A large amount of water can also be used for flushing, and the diluted washing water will be put into the wastewater system.
Large amount of leakage: build a dike or dig a pit to receive. Cover with foam to reduce steam disaster. Use explosion-proof pump to transfer to tank car or special collector for recycling or transport to waste disposal site.
5. Handling and storage
Precautions for operation: close operation and strengthen ventilation. The operators must be specially trained and strictly abide by the operating procedures. It is recommended that operators wear catheter type gas masks, one-piece adhesive tape gas jackets and rubber oil resistant gloves. Keep away from kindling and heat sources. Smoking is strictly prohibited in the workplace. Use explosion-proof ventilation systems and equipment. Prevent steam from leaking into the air of the workplace. Avoid contact with oxidants. Operate and dispose in nitrogen. Handle with care to prevent damage to packaging and containers. Fire fighting equipment and leakage emergency treatment equipment of corresponding varieties and quantities shall be provided. Empty containers may retain harmful substances.
Storage precautions: Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Keep away from kindling and heat source. The warehouse temperature should not exceed 30 ℃. The package shall be sealed and shall not contact with air. It shall be stored separately from oxidants, peroxides and edible chemicals, and shall not be mixed. Explosion proof lighting and ventilation facilities shall be adopted. It is prohibited to use mechanical equipment and tools that are easy to generate sparks. The storage area shall be equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment and appropriate materials. The "five pairs" management system for extremely toxic substances shall be strictly implemented.
