Sodium borohydride can be used as a reducing agent:Preparation of saturated alcohols by reduction of conjugated aldehydes and ketones.Used with Raney nickel for the reduction of aromatic nitro compounds to arylamines. Synthesis of secondary amines by reductive amination of ketones and aldehydes in the presence of acid catalysts.Synthesis of δ and γ lactones by reduction of cyclic anhydrides.For the chemoselective reduction of N-protected amino acids and peptides to the corresponding alcohols.

General description
