Use of tetrahydrofuran

Tetrahydrofuran is an important synthetic raw material and solvent with excellent performance, especially suitable for dissolving PVC, polyvinylidene chloride, and butyl aniline, and used as a reaction solvent. When used in aluminum electroplating, the thickness and brightness of the layer can be arbitrarily controlled.

In the pharmaceutical industry, tetrahydrofuran is used to synthesize chloramphenicol, rifamycin, progesterone, and some hormone drugs.

In the pharmaceutical industry, THF is used to synthesize chloramphenicol, rifamycin, progesterone, and some hormone preparations. THF is treated with hydrogen sulfide to generate tetrahydrothiophenol, which can be used as an odorant (recognition additive) in fuel gas. THF can also be used as a surface treatment for synthetic leather.

1. Suitable for dissolving PVC, polyvinylidene chloride, and butylamine, widely used as a solvent and reaction solvent for surface coatings, anti-corrosion coatings, printing inks, magnetic tapes, and film coatings. Used in aluminum plating solution, the thickness and brightness of the aluminum layer can be controlled arbitrarily.

2. Polymethylene ether glycol (PTMEG), also known as tetrahydrofuran homopolyether, can be formed through condensation reaction (ring opening and re polymerization by cation).

3. PTMEG and Toluene diisocyanate (TDI) are made of special rubber with good wear resistance, oil resistance, low temperature performance and high strength; Preparation of block polyether polyester elastomers using dimethyl terephthalate and 1,4-butanediol.

THF is a good solvent in Grignard reaction. For stable ethylene halogenated hydrocarbons (such as chlorobenzene), THF can only be used as a solvent for Grignard reaction. 5. THF itself is a condensation reaction (ring opening re polymerization initiated by cation 5261), which turns into polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG), also known as tetrahydrofuran homoether.

Precautions for using tetrahydrofuran

After high concentration inhalation, symptoms such as dizziness, headache, chest tightness, chest pain, cough, fatigue, stomach pain, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, and possibly accompanied by eye irritation may occur. Some patients may experience liver dysfunction.

Vapours can form explosive mixtures with air. Under high heat conditions, open flames and strong oxidizing agents can cause combustion. Harmful to aquatic organisms and may have long-term adverse effects on the aquatic environment.

In addition, tetrahydrofuran has a similar structure and some stabilizers should be added to prevent this reaction.
