What is N-methyl imidazole?

N,N' -carbonyl diimidazole, alias 1,1' -carbonyl diimidazole, 1,1' -carbonyl diimidazole and carbonyl diimidazole, molecular formula C7H6N4O, molecular weight 162.15, white crystal, mainly used in organic synthesis and pesticide, pharmaceutical intermediates.

Synthesis method of 1 Methylimidazole:

1,1' -carbonyl diimidazole was obtained by the reaction of imidazole with phosgene dissolved in benzene, the imidazole hydrochloride in the reactants was filtered out, and the filtrate was concentrated to obtain 1,1' -carbonyl diimidazole with a yield of 91%.

Pour 200ml of anhydrous benzene into a 500ml conical funnel and plug it to weigh. Remove the glass plug and install a gas inlet tube with a sand-core filter on the funnel. At room temperature and under the protection of the drying tube, about 20 grams of phosgene was introduced in about 1 hour (the volume of benzene solution increased correspondingly by about 12~16 ml). Plug the funnel, immediately weigh, calculate the actual phosgene weight is 16.55 grams (0.167 mol). Therefore, the molar ratio of phosgene to imidazole is 1:4 to calculate the amount of imidazole required. The funnel was then installed on a three-neck flask containing 45.60 g (0.669 mol) of imidazole and 500 ml of anhydrous tetrahydrofuran, and a benzene solution of phosgenin was dropped for 15-30 minutes under cooling and electromagnetic agitation. After continuing to stir for 15 minutes, let stand at room temperature for 1 hour. Imidazole hydrochloride was filtered by a sand funnel in a dry atmosphere. The filtrate was concentrated to dry at 40~50℃ and reduced pressure, yielding a colorless crystal of 24.5 g (91%).
