Formic acid, its vapor and air can form explosive mixture, in case of open fire, high heat energy causes combustion explosion. A chemical reaction may occur on contact with a strong oxidant. It is highly corrosive. So, formic acid after leakage, how should we go to dispose of it?

Methods of formic acid procedure

1. First of all, quickly evacuate people from the contaminated area to the safe area, and quarantine them, strictly restrict access.

2. Cut off the fire. It is recommended that emergency personnel wear self-contained positive pressure breathing apparatus and anti-acid and alkali clothing.

3. Do not touch the spill directly. Cut off the leakage source as far as possible to prevent it from flowing into the restricted space such as sewer and flood discharge ditch;

4. If it is a small leak: adsorb or absorb with sand or other non-combustible materials, you can also sprinkle the ground with soda ash, then rinse with plenty of water, dilute with water and put into the waste water system

5. If it is a large leak: build a embankment or dig a hole to receive. Cover with foam to reduce steam damage. Spray water cooling and dilution of steam. Transfer by pump to tank car or special collector, recycling or transport to waste treatment site disposal.
